Scottish Tour - 2017
It has long been a dream for the band to travel to Scotland as a group and perform there; but we never truly tried to organize this tour, for many reasons the timing was never right. After all, it's not just a puddle jump for us to get there! Over 11.000km away it would remain a dream for countless years.
It was at our end of year asado (BBQ) in 2015 that -partially in jest?- our Pipe Major brought the subject to the table again. It was already (probably very) late in the night and (definitely many) bottles of wine and whisky had been consumed... In any case everyone was for it and the planning started.
In August 2017 we will be travelling to Scotland for the first time as a band. We will be competing at 3 events and we'll put on a show in the streets of Glasgow.
On Friday August 4th 12 pipers, 9 drummers and 10 dancers of the Highland Thistle Pipe Band from Argentina will land in Glasgow. We will have little time to make sure everyone is there and that the instruments are all in order, for on Saturday 5th we will be visiting the Dundonald Highland Games in Ayrshire, where we will compete for the first time in Scotland and right in the shadows of Dundonald Castle. Our busy schedule will take us to the Bridge of Allan Highland Games on Sunday 6th to compete again, this time in sight of the Wallace Monument. On Wednesday 9th, as part of Piping Live!, we'll put on a show in George Square (Glasgow) that will include drilling, our highland dancers and we'll even throw in a bit of tango too! The tour will end on a high note when we compete at The World Pipe Band Championship on Saturday 12th in Glasgow Green.
We expect this to be a historic tour for us and we fully intend to enjoy it to the fullest!
